Wooden Clapper

These wooden clappers were used by novices to wake the sisters. Early each morning, they ran through the corridors of the convent making noise with the clapper, and then again to signal lights out at night. Clappers were also used in place of bells for liturgical services during Holy Week. Each province had a wooden clapper.
