Originally from Pittsburgh, Bishop Coleman Carroll of Miami asked Felician Sisters to staff and manage a new hospital in Port Charlotte, FL. Headed by administrator Sister Mary Virginia Stasiulewicz, the new 50-bed hospital opened in 1962. The Felician Sisters assumed ownership and expanded the hospital, constructing a new nursing home, the St. Joseph Life Enrichment Center, in 1987. After 37 years of service, the Felician Sisters ended their ministry in Port Charlotte.
