These photos are of what was originally a Home for Boys in Jackson, Michigan. The Felician Sisters opened the orphanage in 1912 within the former Thompson mansion. In 1968, a new home was built that could include girls. In keeping with societal change, the residential program was phased out in 1976. 
In 1912, the Detroit provincial administration purchased the Thompson mansion in Jackson, Michigan on 11 acres of property, and in that same year, they opened a home for orphaned boys, or boys with a parent who could not keep them.
This photograph from 1937 is of boys helping in the kitchen at St. Joseph Home under the supervision of Sister Mary Leokadia. All of the boys helped by doing chores, from cutting grass to cleaning.
Boys of similar age are engaged in various activities under the care of a Felician Sister in the early years of St. Joseph Home for Boys.
The first group of boys to inhabit the Thompson mansion posed for a group photo on the front steps. St. Joseph Home for Boys in Jackson, Michigan, opened in 1912.
