A visionary leader of Our Lady of the Angels Province for 18 years, Sister Mary Laureann Alexandrowicz became the catalyst for discussions that would reimagine the future of the Felician Sisters on this continent.
Provincial leaders of the eight Felician provinces met in 1996 to discuss their futures. Sister Laureann advocated for a study on how best to reorganize and reevaluate their governance.
It was her belief that, rather than focus on the future of each individual province, the sisters could examine the entirety of their life and service across the continent. Sister Laureann posited that the Felician mission in North America might be stronger and revitalized if the sisters shared their talents, gifts, and resources across the provinces.
Her position paper on the subject launched a series of meetings to reimagine the future of their community. In 1996, Felician Sisters from all eight provinces across North America met for what would become a 13-year process.
The sisters’ discussions led to the 2009 creation of one new North American province — Our Lady of Hope — that would unite the eight distinct Felician provinces into one with a new governance structure and a revitalized and reimagined sense of the future.
Among Sister Laureann’s other notable accomplishments are her direction and management of the Felician Congregation’s Central Archives in Enfield, and her role as a member of the tribunal charged with research and advocacy for the canonization of Felician Foundress, Blessed Mary Angela Truszkowska.
