Sister Mary Fidelise Ambrosiewicz

With multiple nursing degrees, Sister Mary Fidelise Ambrosiewicz was a healthcare trailblazer who pioneered all three hospitals of the Immaculate Conception Province in Lodi, New Jersey.

In the 1940s, Sister Fidelise served first as nursing administrator, and then as hospital administrator of Blackwell General Hospital, where she initiated the first licensed practical nursing program in Oklahoma. She directed an intensive renovation, creating an entirely new hospital facility in less than six years.

In 1954, she served as administrator of St. Joseph Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a historic landmark that required restoration and renovation. Her expertise was sought to innovate its medical residency, professional nursing, and medical technology programs.

In 1962, Sister Fidelise served as administrator of the newly acquired St. Mary Hospital in Orange, New Jersey, where she directed a complete renovation. She created a new wing and innovated nursing and medical technology programs in affiliation with Felician College.
