Sister Mary Dennis Glonek

Having served two terms as a provincial councilor, Sister Mary Dennis Glonek was prepared to assume leadership of Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Province, and despite fragile health, she served two terms from 1988 to 2000.

Her doctoral degree and leadership service at Madonna (College) University as division chair of science and mathematics bolstered her confidence and collegiality.

Her vision and dedicated leadership significantly influenced the development of sponsored ministries on the provincial grounds, including St. Mary Hospital, Madonna University, Angela Hospice, Marywood Nursing Care Center and Marybrook Manor, Ladywood High School, St. Mary Hospital Child Care Center, and Senior Clergy Village. She also led an extensive renovation of the motherhouse.

She met the challenges of the 100th anniversary of the death of Blessed Mary Angela in Krakow, Poland, the 125th anniversary of the arrival of Felician Sisters in North America, and the 125th anniversary of the province. These events entailed significant planning and, working with her council, Sister Dennis' skillful preparation resulted in impressive observances.

Sister Dennis recognized that Felicians were transitioning from a Eurocentric and North American community to one of  growing diversity. Consequently, she encouraged a global mindset, emphasizing inculturation in the whole-life formation of its members. The sisters enjoyed more travel opportunities, participation in pilgrimages, and armchair presentations that focused on Felicians of various nationalities serving around the world.

Quiet and unassuming, Sister Dennis humbly accepted an honorary doctoral degree awarded by Madonna University in 1995.
