Sister Mary Alexander Klawinski served in leadership roles for five decades, including as provincial minister of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Province.
Sister Alexander’s commitment to the underserved and marginalized is legendary. She cleared a path forward for many ministries to the marginalized, including for a sister to minister in Kenya and another to minister in Appalachia, two areas struggling with poverty. She made it possible for the establishment of a Felician ministry for the underserved in Kingstree, South Carolina.
The Mooncrest Neighborhood Program, a ministry aimed at helping at-risk children and families in Pittsburgh’s Mooncrest neighborhood, was another project initiated by Sister Alexander that changed lives. She also engaged Felician Sisters in a partnership with the Pittsburgh-area Sisters Place, a ministry to the homeless and impoverished.
“My greatest joy is living life in community with my sisters, having their support, their friendship — and most of all, having our prayer life, and joining with my sisters in faith. It is a beautiful life.”
