These photos are of Felician Sisters from many of the North American provinces who were missioned to Niteroi, Brazil. In 1950, Mother Mary Simplicita Nehring received a letter asking for sisters to provide education, religious instruction, staff a retreat house and perform other humanitarian services as needed for Polish immigrants settling there after WWII. The mission work extended to Curitiba, Sao Paolo, Araruama, and Botafogo.
Photographed in 1955 during a General Visitation in Niteroi, Brazil are SM Virginia Armatowski, SM Elfreda Wieribicka, MM Alexander Kucharski, SM Gualbert Kazmierczak, and SM Dulcilia Rys.
Felician Sisters aboard the SS Exochorda enroute to the Felician mission in Brazil in 1952 were SM Ludgarda, SM Kolumba, SM Laudyna, SM Miriam, SM Rafaela (EN), SM Virginette, MM Simplicita (touching lifesaver), MM Annunciata (in back), MM Alexander Kucharska (holding purse), SM Paulinel.
