Felician Sisters Day Nursery

Felician Sister’s Day Nursery opened with two children; by the end of that week, 22 were enrolled, so great was the need. Buffalo's superior Mother Mary Scholastica Rutkowski bought the old house on Barton Street in Hamilton, Ontario and renovated it for use as a nursery. But people who were poor could not afford to send their children to the nursery. The sisters learned they qualified for a government grant for children whose mothers worked in war plants. People sent donations to keep the nursery going. When economic conditions improved in the 1960s, the sisters officially closed the nursery on June 3, 1966, and sold the property.
