These beaded rabbit-fur mittens were made by Zita Rose Nelleye, a Dene Elder of the Tulita, Northwest Territory community located within the Arctic Circle, where fur is crucial for staying warm. The Felician Sisters’ mission in Tulita serves the Dene people, an indigenous First Nations group. The sisters were gifted these mittens by the tribe.
